Delays in Nigeria Likely April 21, 2011— Employers should expect delays in the processing of applications for authorization to employ foreign nationals in Nigeria following the suspension of the country’s Interior Minister, who oversaw the country’s Immigration Service. In the wake of the suspension, Interior Ministry operations including immigration functions will be overseen by the Minister of Labor. The change in leadership is expected to cause applications for Expatriate Quotas – the company permit that authorizes employment of an expatriate in a specific position – to be more closely scrutinized to ensure compliance with rules that govern an employer’s workforce. |
