New Sponsor Requirements in Hanoi

April 1, 2011— Sponsoring entities based in Hanoi must now file a periodic report on their employment of expatriates, according to a recent circular released jointly by the People’s Committee of Hanoi and the Vietnamese Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. Sponsoring employers must submit their first report on May 30, 2011. Their second report for 2011 is due on November 30. Going forward, the reports will be due no later than May 30 and November 30 of each year.

For the May 2011 report, sponsoring entities must complete the official form provided by the Department of Labor, which requests details of the company’s employment of expatriates during the first six months of the year, as well as their plans for the remaining six months of the year. The completed form should be returned to the Department of Labor’s Employment and Labor Policies Office in Hanoi.

Currently, only Hanoi-based companies are required to file the report.
