Updates on Earthquake Disruptions in Japan

March 16, 2011— Given the recent earthquake in Japan, please be advised that phone lines are very unstable, power is an issue and the government may enforce power restrictions or cuts.

Seaport Logistics
Yokohama port was hit harder than Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Osaka, and Hakata, however, both Yokohama and Tokyo ports are not operating normally. There are shortages of container trucks, damage to roads and buildings and overall port operation is disrupted at the moment, although Yokohama and Tokyo ports remain open.

It is doubtful that export containers will be loaded this week and service disruptions are to be expected.  It is very likely that import containers will also be delayed being picked up due to lack of equipment.  Also possible are service suspensions due to carriers' schedules.

Sendai, Onahama, and Hachinohe ports have limited terminal facilities and containers at these ports have suffered serious damages by the tsunami.  We regret to announce service suspension for exports and imports at Sendai, Onahama, and Hachinohe until further notice. Contingency plans for import cargo onboard to these locations will be communicated on a case-by-case basis by your AIReS Relocation Specialist.

Planned electricity outage - Tokyo and Yokohama
The Japanese government has decided to implement planned electricity outage in Kanto area (including Tokyo and Yokohama) by splitting the area into five groups and rolling blackouts from one to three hours per day for each group. AIReS is in contact with all of our overseas partners and warehouses which are safely outside the impact zone.

We appreciate your support and if you should have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your local AIReS representative directly.  We shall continue to monitor the situation and report updates accordingly.
