No Remaining Permits Available for Intracompany Transferees in Romania

November 23, 2011— The Romanian immigration authority announced on November 8 that it met the 2011 quota for intracompany transferee work permits. As a result, no work permits will be available for intracompany transferees until new quota numbers become available in 2012. Any pending applications will be denied. Foreign nationals seeking to apply for intracompany transferee work permits will be able to apply after the Romanian government announces new quota figures in January.

Each year, Romania sets a quota on the number of work permits it will issue. Unlike previous years, authorities divided up the overall quota in 2011, allocating quota numbers separately for each work permit category. Only 600 work permits were available to intracompany transferees, while 4,000 were allocated to local hires, and 900 were set aside for other categories, such as interns, athletes and cross-border, nominal and seasonal workers.
