AIReS Celebrates Earth Day by Planting 1,000 Trees!

Pittsburgh, PA – April 22, 2011 — AIReS is committed to corporate responsibility and supports sustainable initiatives that we truly believe in. We already incorporate environmentally-friendly processes into our day-to-day jobs with simple things from electronic document management to reusable packing materials when completing a move, keeping our work as green as we can. To show our commitment, and to celebrate Earth Day, AIReS has made a donation to The Nature Conservancy that will plant 1,000 trees in the Atlantic Forest region of Brazil, as part of the organization's Plant A Billion campaign.

The Plant A Billion campaign seeks to prevent degradation and deforestation of the Atlantic Forest, which is now 7% of its former size. The Conservancy and its scientists are working with local partners in Brazil to restore 2.5 million acres of land, which includes the planting of 1 billion trees. This reforestation initiative will remove 10 million tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year, the equivalent to taking 2 million cars off the road. The impact of this project expands beyond reforestation.  It will also protect local watersheds, which provide clean water and hydro power to more than 70 million local residents. The Conservancy also plans on creating 20,000-70,000 jobs as a result of their efforts in the region.

Outside of this campaign, The Nature Conservancy has preservation and restoration projects in all 50 U.S. states and over 30 countries. A key part of their current initiatives is ongoing clean up of the Gulf Oil Spill. After a year of efforts in the Gulf Coast Region, The Nature Conservancy has managed to preserve more than 216,000 acres of land and the wildlife that inhabit it. Their projects in the region focus on large scale conservation, and include helping create or expand national wildlife parks, in the states of Florida, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and even Mexico and the Caribbean shores.
